MANILA, Philippines – Four persons were arrested for allegedly stealing the jewelry of the wife of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), an official said yesterday.
Cavusoglu along with his wife, Hulya, arrived at the NAIA last week for the 50th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Ministerial Meeting in Manila.

Customs broker Mark Taguba on Monday mentioned the name of Davao City vice mayor Paolo Duterte during the resumption of the House inquiry into the P6.4-billion worth of shabu illegally transported into the country.
According to a report by radio dzBB’s Rowena Salvacion, Taguba said that the Vice Mayor, the eldest son of President Rodrigo Duterte, is being “name-dropped” by individuals the broker had previously tagged as receiving P27,000 bribe or “grease money” from him, namely “Tita Nani,” “Jake,” and “Small.”

House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez asked Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon to promote an employee of the Bureau of Customs, a letter from the Speaker obtained by GMA News Online showed.
The letter, sent by a source on Friday, came amid the allegations by Atty. Mandy Anderson, chief of staff of Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon, that Alvarez – through an assistant – threatened her when she refused to promote an “unqualified” BOC employee, whom the Speaker was allegedly lobbying for.

MANILA- The wife of House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez has finally broken her silence on her marriage, saying she was “abandoned” by her husband after he assumed the speakership.
Admitting that there is pain, Emelita Apostol Alvarez revealed that she long knew of her husband’s illicit affair but it was only last year that the Speaker left their family home.

Armed robbers shot and seriously injured Scot Tarek Naggar, 44, in Cebu City, just hours before he was supposed to be married to his Filipina fiance, the BBC news service reported on Sunday.
Naggar, who is from the Scottish town of Milngavie, was standing outside a convenience store on Thursday when three suspects drove up on a motorcycle.

Amid fears of political uncertainty under the Duterte administration, new IT-BPM investments registered under the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) have fallen by more than a third in the first five months of the year, showing “alarming” signs of slowing down months after local concerns started causing jitters in the industry, a source familiar with the issue told the Inquirer.
